Vertical Adventures

It was an overcast June Saturday, and the parking lot at Lenape High School was full. The main entrance was swarmed with overly tanned muscular men wearing what I want to say were bikini bottoms, but I'm not a doctor. I later learned it was the day of the South Jersey Body Building competition. Luckily, my boyfriend and I were just in time to not see it. We weren't there for that. We grabbed our spikes and headed swiftly in the opposite direction, towards the track.

Lenape High School had another big event that day, the annual Vertical Adventures heptathlon / decathlon.

This years event proved just as good as last years; the staff was as helpful as I remember; food and drinks were abundant; embarrassing performances were tucked between new records; and the weather was decent. Last year, being my first year ever trying a heptathlon, I was able to easily PR in all seven events. This year I managed to PR in three, by some weird miracle. I came out (still in dead last) 167 points ahead of my score from last year.

Shortly after the meet, our apartment became home to a new javelin, discuss, and shot. Why? Because we suck and we want to be better. Sure it's all fun and games- but we need to win the games.

We are like, the least competitive couple ever.
